So today was the big day. Not so big really, it was my 6th FOTS I guess. I’ve already lost count. Anyways, I woke up at 5am with a severe need for speed and thus rode the bus to Cubbon Park.
Locals need no introduction to this place. For all you non-Bangaloreans Cubbon Park is the city’s largest park, situated right in the heart of the city. Or a green lung would be a more apt description, the other lung being Lalbagh (more on this later). It is a perfect place for a runner providing both road and dirt tracks.
We had assembled here this morning for Feet on the Street Edition #12 in association with AIM for Seva, a national child welfare NGO. The event isn’t competitive but meant to raise awareness about the Trust and encourage people to take up the sport. The route is a simple flat 5.2k run on road starting from the UB city entrance. Here is the race route. 1 loop is about 2.6k.
After a brief introduction by AIM we set off at 7am. My target for the morning was a sub 23. I started off faster than usual, a bit too fast really. I tried matching pace with a couple of the front-runners and did so successfully for a while. But midway through the second lap the difference in class shown through & I began to lag behind. As I approached the Queen’s Road aid station I slowed paused for a second and reset my pace. What could have been a smooth 22.something with a more controlled start ended up being an average 23.3. Though Luck.
Now for the serious part, the aim of the run was to create publicity and I will do so. Take a look at the AIM for Seva website and see how if you can chip in.

Post race group photo.
Pathetic quality low res pics, I know, But this was the best I could obtain. The pics are still to be updated on the RFL site.
