It’s been a while since I’d last done some serious miles on dirt. My favourite location to do so is the GKVK campus off Bellary road. So that’s where I take you again. The 10k route I follow has been devised through multiple trips and numerous wrong turns. This has to be the most pleasing route through the campus.
I set off from home at about 6am & 6.20 I was on the campus premises. My start point is always the Ganesh Mandir, located straight inside from the main gate. This is also the spot where the Runners for Life group meet up at 6am on Sunday mornings. If in the need of a companion or just water or first aid, this is the place you can find it.
From this point set off southward in the general direction of NCBS. On reaching a dead end turn right onto the dirt track. Follow this trail till the first major right turn near the mango grove. Follow till the water tank and turn left.
This morning I found this path blocked using thorny branches, most likely meant to deter two wheelers. Just jump over if you are on foot.
Travel down straight, skipping the first right and taking the second. You can’t miss this one as there is a field of sunflowers right around the corner. It’s usually an awesome sight in the mornings as you are running from the east and all the flowers are staring at you. That wasn’t the case today though, they seemed kind of dead.
Head straight until you hit an asphalt road. Take a left and go straight till the wall. Here you will see remains of a once glorious chikoo grove, now in tatters thanks to the road work. I just close my eyes at this point; it’s not a pretty sight. (A thorough picture of this eco-crisis is my next post)
Take a right, through the grove and find a narrow dirt path. Follow it till the end and head right till you reach asphalt again. Find a left, follow it till you reach dirt again, skip the first turning, and then take right, right, left and right in quick succession. It’s complicated I know, but also rewarding, trust me.
By this point you have hit the main road, it’s easy to follow till the temple again. That completes 8k of the stretch. To complete 10 just head back to the main gate.
That’s all for now, hopefully before my next post my skin will be of a single colour.
Happy Holi everyone!!!
